Hamptons International Film Festival
October 3 - 14, 2025
The Maidstone, 207 Main Street, East Hampton, NY
This group presentation, timed with the Hamptons Film Festival, brings together a selection of contemporary, emerging artists whose practices are united by a shared fascination with the moving and still image. Drawing inspiration from the history of cinema, photography, and the alchemy of image-making, these works explore how the camera captures, frames, distorts, preserves, or invents moments in time.
Each artist engages with the language and legacy of film and photography in distinctive ways—whether through cinematic techniques such as frame composition, references to Hollywood, or literal nods to photographic machinery. Others adopt a more conceptual approach, interrogating the act of looking, the role of the viewer, and the materiality of light, lens, and film.
What binds the exhibition is a collective reverence for the camera as both a tool and a metaphor: a device that not only records but transforms. The artworks reflect on how photography and cinema have shaped our understanding of memory, identity, and truth. They present fragments of stories, imagined scenes, or life-like stills that feel lifted from a reel just out of reach.
