Kate Mary: Arrival

This collection of drawings is an expression of Mary’s encounters with the natural world at the intersection of architecture and the idea of ‘home.’ The works on paper are a hopeful and ambiguous collection of observations created to awaken the imagination and provide a sense of grounding, comfort, and growth. In the words of Paul Cezanne, Mary aims “to make visible how the world touches us.”

Trained as an interior designer, Mary uses this creative lens to depict intimate renderings of domestic scenes and moments. Arrival celebrates Scottish interiors and landscapes, the rituals and objects of home, whilst reflecting on the seasonal nature of change both within ourselves and the world around us. Through enhancing motifs, playing with scale, celebrating color, and intensifying light and shadow, her works become striking, atmospheric depictions of her memories.
